HaloSource brands include HaloPure water disinfection solutions, which kill disease-causing bacteria and viruses for safe, pure drinking water; HaloShield textile- and surface-coating solutions, which harness the antimicrobial power of chlorine; SeaKlear water treatments to maintain clean and clear water in pools and spas; and StormKlear natural erosion and sediment control for treating stormwater, construction site run-off and other wasterwater or water recycling needs.

In addition, HaloSource gives partners access to an interdisciplinary team of marketers, scientists, engineers, designers and technologists who are the best in their fields.

10. What are HaloSource’s HaloPure drinking water solutions?
HaloPure is a novel contact biocide technology in which halogen ions are bonded onto polystyrene beads. Long-lasting and ultra-low-leaching, the halogens in HaloPure attack and kill viable or harmful microbes by contact in a matter of seconds. As these microbes pass through the HaloPure beads, they collide with solid-state brominated hydantions. With an engineered dwell time in a filter or device, the killing process continues inside the system. Treated water is safe to drink in seconds.

HaloPure is proven reliable and effective and has been tested against a wide range of organisms. All HaloPure products meet the World Health Organizations guidelines for safety and disinfection, and HaloPure technology is currently undergoing registrations with the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

Across the developing world today, more than 80 percent of all diseases are waterborne. HaloPure beads kill bacteria and viruses in drinking water that cause diarrhea, dysentery, gastroenteritis, typhoid, cholera and other waterborne diseases.

Examples of microorganisms HaloPure effectively kills:

Poliovirus
Rotavirus
MS2
Klebsiella terrigena
Escherichia coli (E. coli)
Vibrio cholera
Salmonella
Staphylococcus aureus

There are numerous applications for HaloPure-powered water disinfection technology, which works independent of electricity or running water.

HaloPure applications include:

Purifier inserts to provide a quick, easy and low-cost water disinfection upgrade to many of the estimated 65 million gravity-fed water filters in use worldwide.
Faucet-mount drinking water filters that easily install on existing water taps to provide pure drinking water, direct from the faucet.
Purifying pitchers for pure, safe and great-tasting water in homes.
Wall-mounted, nonelectric drinking water disinfection systems for in-line water disinfection that is not dependent upon electric power supply—which may be unreliable in developing countries.
Sports bottles with bacteria reduction for safe, great-tasting water on the go.
Onboard water treatment systems for commercial airliners.
HaloPure can be a complementary technology if effectively deployed as a supplemental treatment in complete devices, offsetting the limitations of existing drinking water technologies.

HaloSource also provides customized HaloPure products and components to enhance the performance of drinking water devices produced by leading manufacturers.

11. What are HaloSource’s HaloShield antimicrobial coating solutions?
HaloShield antimicrobial coatings extend and prolong the proven power of chlorine bleach* to kill 99.9 percent of odor-causing bacteria and molds on textiles. Current antimicrobial HaloShield applications include cleaning cloths, kitchen towels, bed linens, bath towels, and underpads. Future applications may include sponges; sports apparel and towels; military garments (basic duty uniforms and chem-bio defense suits); masks, gloves, and respirators for use in patient isolation units; scrubs; lab coats; and uniforms.

12. What are HaloSource’s SeaKlear water treatment solutions?
HaloSource offers a broad array of recreational water treatment products for the easy and effective maintenance of clean and clear water in pools, spas and water parks. The products in the SeaKlear and SeaKlear Spa lines provide proven and reliable solutions to clarify water, remove phosphates, kill and remove algae, and reduce pH fluctuations, without harmful effects. Cloudy and turbid water in recreational water compromises the swimming environment and presents a significant safety risk if swimmers can’t be seen underwater. Cloudy water can also harbor Cryptosporidium and other microbes that cause serious waterborne illnesses. SeaKlear PRS® is the only product that traps Cryptosporidium in a pool’s filter. SeaKlear and SeaKlear Spa products are available to consumers and pool and spa maintenance professionals through a network of national distributors and dealers.

13. What are HaloSource’s StormKlear stormwater solutions?
StormKlear natural stormwater solutions provide reliable and proven treatments for naturally clarifying stormwater runoff from construction sites, wastewater and other water recycling needs. StormKlear products reduce turbidity and remove water contaminants responsibly to naturally treat water that is environmentally and fish friendly. StormKlear products are specified by leading engineering firms and approved by many government agencies. They are available through regional and national distributors, value-added resellers and system integrators in the United States and Canada.

14. What work is HaloSource doing in India?
A new operating company was recently established in India to provide HaloPure water disinfection technology in that country. HaloSource has teamed up with India’s largest household water purification company, Eureka Forbes, which is known for making its AquaGuard water purifiers a household name. In 2006, Eureka Forbes introduced the HaloPure-powered AquaSure units, which purifies water in homes without electricity and with no in-line water supply.

15. Does HaloSource have its own R&D laboratories?
HaloSource has had its own fully equipped research and development laboratories dedicated to investigative microbiology and analytical chemistry since 1999. In several labs focused on chitin/chitosan and N-halamine chemistries, our world-class chemists, biochemists and microbiologists develop solutions for disinfecting and purifying water, and killing germs.

16. What are HaloSource’s goals and plans for the future?
One of HaloSource’s key goals is to provide affordable and reliable solutions that ensure access to safe water for all people. By focusing on the fast-growing market for water disinfection, HaloSource hopes to establish the global standard for point-of-use drinking water products in emerging markets. In addition to India, HaloSource has expanded into China and has identified other markets that are in significant need for clean, safe water.

In the antimicrobial textile market, HaloSource is partnering with the world’s leading brands and retailers to market and sell a full line of HaloShield-powered antimicrobial textiles and coatings.

In the area of water treatment, HaloSource plans to establish its SeaKlear and StormKlear brands as the innovation leaders in the recreational water and stormwater markets.

17. How was HaloSource founded?
